Jazz Legends in Concert for David Lynch Foundation Benefit, Dec 13, 2012 : The David Lynch Foundation hosted a benefit gala featuring an historic night of jazz on Thursday, December 13, 2012, at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall. Gala performers included such world-class jazz musicians as Herbie Hancock, Wynton Marsalis, Wayne Shorter, Corinne Bailey Rae, Esperanza Spalding, and Terri Lyne Carrington. The gala raised funds to teach the Transcendental Meditation technique to tens of thousands of underserved students; veterans and active-duty military struggling with PTSD and their families; and women and girls who are victims of violence and abuse. Ray and Barbara Dalio: Mr. Dalio, the Founder of Bridgewater Associates, a leading investment management firm were Gala honorees. In 2012, Mr. Dalio was recognized by Time Magazine as one of the world’s 100 most influential people. Barbara Dalio serves as Director of The Dalio Foundation and on the board of the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music. Barbara is an advocate of education, the arts, and meditation for all students. Dr. Mehmet and Lisa Oz: Dr. Oz is a cardiac surgeon, New York Times best-selling author of such titles as You: The Owner’s Manual, and the Emmy Award-winning host of the Dr. Oz Show. Lisa Oz is a producer, actress, and New York Times bestselling author of US: Transforming Ourselves and the Relationships that Matter Most. David Lynch and George Stephanopoulos were Gala co-host. Mr. Lynch is an Academy Award-nominated film director of such iconic classics as Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway, Elephant Man, and Dune. Children of Armenia Fund, Dec 13, 2012 : The Children of Armenia Fund (COAF), a non-profit organization working to improve the living conditions for village children in Armenia, hosted its Ninth Annual Holiday Gala on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in The Temple of Dendur in The Sackler Wing. The event was a huge success as more than 300 longtime friends and supporters gathered for an unforgettable evening and raised $1.3 million to support of COAF’s programs. Special guests in attendance included Nathan Lane, Sean Hayes, Victor Garber and Patricia Field. For the sixth year in a row, Emmy and Tony Award-winning actress, Andrea Martin was the master of ceremonies for the evening. She was also honored for her longtime commitment to the organization with the COAF Humanitarian Award. Martin has been a longtime advocate of COAF’s mission in creating and sustaining opportunities for growth and progress among children in impoverished rural Armenia. The COAF Humanitarian Award was created to recognize individuals doing outstanding work in advocacy and awareness both inside and outside the organization. Both Sam and Sylva Simonian and Nathan Lane were also honored for their philanthropic accomplishments. Sam Simonian, President and CEO of INET, also founded the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies in Armenia. TUMO is a state-of-the-art digital technology center that serves as a precursor for teens wanting to pursue careers in animation, video games, web development, and digital video and audio. Nathan Lane, notably known for his work in film and television, was also honored for his philanthropic work. Lane sits on the Board of Trustees for Broadway Cares / Equity Fights Aids, one of the nation’s leading industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organizations. The evening also featured performances by children who traveled to New York from the villages of Armenia where COAF works. They played traditional Armenian musical instruments and shared their success stories with those in attendance. Brian Stokes-Mitchell captivated the crowd with a performance of “What a Wonderful World” and evening came to a close after singer Lauriana Mae delivered her rendition of “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)”. The Gala was co-hosted by celebrated artist Michael Aram. The event also featured both silent and live auctions conducted by Sotheby’s celebrity auctioneer C. Hugh Hildesley. 2012 "Beat the Odds " Recipients of the Children's Defense Fund Scholarship, Dec 11, 2012 : The Children’s Defense Fund-New York hosted its annual CDF Beat the Odds® Awards Dinner last night at the New York Athletic Club. With WCBS-TV’s Maurice DuBois serving as Master of Ceremonies, the evening celebrated the accomplishments and scholastic achievements of five New York City high school seniors. The five Beat The Odds recipients– Jeffrey Ng, Joshua Norris, Raymond Perez, Ricki Rupine and Abdul Zahid – have overcome tremendous adversity, demonstrated academic excellence and shown leadership in their communities. Facing such issues as homelessness, substance abuse within the family, clinical shyness and learning disabilities, all five have maintained GPAs at the top of their respective high school classes and have become true role models to peers in their schools and communities. Last night, each student was presented with a scholarship to help them pursue their academic and life goals. More than 300 guests joined legendary civil rights leader and President of the Children’s Defense Fund Marian Wright Edelman to honor the Beat the Odds recipients. “These five scholarship winners are but one handful of young people who are facing huge obstacles in reaching their potential, yet overcoming these daunting odds,” said Mrs. Edelman. “CDF’s supporters from all over the country and those in the room recognize that this year is even more critical for area youth, as the New York region works to overcome the physical devastation, financial stress, and psychological impact of Superstorm Sandy.” The evening began with a beautiful and moving rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by renowned opera singer Joyce DiDonato. Tommy Hilfiger honored Craig Cogut, philanthropist and Founder and Managing Partner of Pegasus Capital Advisors, for his work with The Polyphony Foundation. Founded in 2011, The Polyphony Foundation seeks to bring equal opportunity for music education and other innovative educational programs to Arab and Jewish Israeli youth and create channels for dialogue between the Jewish and Arab communities. Polyphony musicians Majd Machour of Nazareth and Uri Tibon of Tel Aviv performed a magical rendition of a Mozart piano piece for four hands. The event was chaired by Deborah Cogut, CDF Board Member, and David Pollak, Director of Marketing and Investor Relations at Pegasus Capital Advisors, and more than $700,000 was raised to support CDF programs that focus on creating policy and pragmatic changes that will level the playing field for America’s children. CDF’s research, public education, policy analysis, community organizing and advocacy is primarily focused on juvenile justice, health, early childhood learning, child welfare education and youth development. Stephanie March and Bobby Flay gave their support to the event as Honorary Co-Chairs, while the roster of presenters included: philanthropist and activist, Khaliah Ali; activist and actor, Harry Belafonte; model and founder of the Georges Malaika Foundation, Noella Coursaris; chef, John Delucie; world-renowned opera singer, Joyce DiDonato; model, actress and founder of the Women’s Coalition for Empowerment, Selita Ebanks; chef, Todd English; Connecticut State Treasurer, Denise Lynn Nappier; CNN anchor, Soledad O’Brien; Contributing Editor at Vogue Magazine, André Leon Talley. Van Ness Holiday Party, Dec 11, 2012 : On Tuesday, December 11, the Order of St. John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitaller, in conjunction with the Pajama Program, hosted a Children’s Christmas Dinner at Chevalier Bill and Prior Ann Van Ness’ town house, for twenty-seven children from Hour Children. Hour Children is an organization in Long Island City that houses the children of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated mothers. The Order of St. John of Jerusalem is one of the oldest Orders of Chivalry in existence. Members of the Commandery of New York and their friends and guests gathered to benefit the children. Welcoming chair was Prior Ann Van Ness. Also attending were Dame Barbara Gross, Dame Diana Frankel, Dame Candace Gonzalez, Dame Claire Burke, Dame Peggy Donovan, Dame Judy Gates, Dame Sydney Renolds-Raniere and aspirant Doris Diamond. The evening began with a pizza and chicken fingers dinner and culminated with a visit from Santa Claus who brought pajamas and books for all of the children. The event was a successful effort to share holiday cheer with vulnerable youngsters living under difficult circumstances.

Doodles for Hunger XIII, Dec 10, 2012 : On Monday, December 10, 2012, St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters held their Thirteenth Annual “Doodle for Hunger” Celebrity Art Auction. Colorful and original signed works of art, or “Doodles”, created by celebrities such as Paul McCartney, John Travolta, Donald Trump, Peter Max, LeRoy Neiman, Cher, Archbishop Timothy Dolan, Betty White, Mariano Rivera, Martin Sheen, Yoko Ono, Mort Kunstler, Yogi Berra, Glenn Close, and many more were auctioned off at Pier Sixty/Chelsea Piers in New York City. The event, which was presented once again by Margo and John Catsimatidis, featured a tribute to the late LeRoy Neiman, legendary sports artist, with a special presentation to his wife, Mrs. Janet Neiman. The evening’s Guest of Honor was Tony Danza, actor, teacher and author, and hosted by Fox 5 News Anchor, Ernie Anastos. Over 600 guests enjoyed a cocktail party, Doodle preview, silent auction and live auction led by acting great Tony Lo Bianco and Kathleen Guzman, professional Auctioneer and Managing Director of Heritage Auctions New York. It was a wonderful evening that raised over $600,000 in support of St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters – which serves over 10,000 poor families in New York and New Jersey each week.

The Order of St John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitaller Holiday Gala, Nov 30, 2012 : The Order of St. John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitaller, The Commandery of New York, held its Holiday Gala on Friday, November 30, 2012, at the Yale Club of New York City, 50 Vanderbilt Avenue at 7pm for cocktails, 8:30 for dinner and dancing. Grand Councillor Vincent Bonagura, MD welcomed guests, Chevalier Reverent Stephen Fichter, PhD offered the evening's blessing and guests were thoroughly entertained by The Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program - -Ryan Speedo Green (bass-baritone), Bryan Wagorn (pianist), Lei Xu (soprano), and Andrew Stenson (tenor). All funds raised from this event benefited the Center for Food Action, Double Discovery Center, Highbridge Community Life Center and Terence Cardinal Cooke Hospital. The Order of St. John of Jerusalem is among the oldest orders of chivalry in existence. It descends directly from the Crusaders.

IN MEMORIAM: Marty Richards (March 11, 1932 - November 26, 2012) : Born: March 11, 1932 - Died: November 26, 2012 Martin Richards was a film producer. He won the Best Picture Academy Award for the production of Chicago. Richards and his late wife Mary Lea Johnson Richards helped with the founding of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and Meals on Wheels. Richards was the force behind such classic musicals as "La Cage aux Folles," "Sweeney Todd" and "Chicago." Although best known for his work on plays that were song and dance heavy, he also produced straight dramatic works such as the Pulitzer Prize winning "Crimes of the Heart." In addition to his work on stage, Richards won an Oscar for producing the film version of "Chicago" and such films as Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" and "Fort Apache, The Bronx" a crime drama with Paul Newman. "For over 50 years, Marty Richards has been transferring his passion for theatre to the stage," Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of the Broadway League, said in a statement. "The popularity of his shows has brought many generations to Broadway. He was an admirer of talent, and we were an admirer of his. His love for the arts was matched only by his generosity and philanthropic causes. He will be greatly missed, and our thoughts are with his family and friends."

Holiday Fundraiser for NYSID Scholarship, Nov 15, 2012 : On November 15th, BiTTT hosted a Holiday Fundraiser Party to raise money to provide a scholarship for a young female student Leighanna Ternosky who attends the New York School of Interior Design. The scholarship includes a mentorship with premier designers Vincent Wolfe and Alexa Hampton, will place her in a summer internship program and will oversee placement in a design firm after her four years. What an amazing opportunity! The Fundraiser event was held at The Anthony Lawrence-Belfair Design Center. The festivities were filled with an assemblage of engaging designers, music, dancing, cocktails and appetizers! BiTTT. Bring it To The Table, developed by Lana Lawrence of Anthony Lawrence-Belfair, provides its members with a place to share resources, experience and make meaningful connections in the design industry.

French Heritage Society 30th Anniversary Celebration, Nov 14, 2012 : On Wednesday, November 14th, 2012, the French Heritage Society (FHS) held a festive fall soiree at the Union Club on Park Avenue in honor of its 30th Anniversary. A portion of the proceeds of the evening was raised to benefit historical renovations for the Abbey of Saint Germain-des Prés. In continuation of FHS’s commemorative festivities in France in October, the Society returned to The Big Apple for a Cocktail Dînatoire celebrating the love affair of Americans in Paris, the city’s Left Bank, its cafés, jazz music and life and its epicenter that all Americans have always known and loved: Saint-Germain des Prés! The event was held under the high patronage of His Excellency François Delattre, Ambassador of France to the U.S. and Ambassador Gérard Araud, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations and Mr. Antonin Baudry, Cultural Counselor of the French Embassy. FHS Chairman Elizabeth Stribling, FHS President Comte Denis de Kergorlay and other French and American notables will be present. New England Society 207th Annual Gala 2012, Nov 9, 2012 : On Friday, November 9, the New England Society in the City of New York hosted its 207th Annual Dinner at the Metropolitan Club. Members and friends gathered to honor American antiques experts Leigh Keno and Leslie Keno with the Reginald T. Townsend Award for distinguished achievement representing the highest attributes of the New England character. The fundraising event supports the Society’s philanthropic programs, including a Scholarship Program for New York students attending New England colleges and the Central Park Monument Fund which helps to preserve the Park's 50 plus historic statues. Leigh Keno is founder and president of Keno Auctions, and Leslie Keno is the Senior Vice President of Sotheby’s American Furniture & Decorative Arts Department. Both well-known figures to the American public for their on-air appraisals on Antiques Roadshow, the Keno brothers’ enthusiasm and scholarship has translated into higher visibility and broader appreciation for American craftsmanship and decorative arts. Upon accepting his Townsend Award, Leigh Keno shared his experiences as an antique dealer which started at the age of 12. His career has spanned decades and has led to record-setting sales for American furniture. His gracious words and personal message were enthusiastically received by the 175 guests in attendance. Manhattan School of Music, Oct 26, 2012 : On Friday, October 26, the Manhattan School of Music kicked off its year-long "Harlem Nights" Concert Series with "Harlem Hothouses," a concert tribute to The Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce by MSM's Grammy®-nominated Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra, led by the renowned percussionist Bobby Sanabria, and featuring the National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Award Honoree, the legendary Cuban-born conguero, Candido. Immediately preceding the concert was a special reception for 300 guests of the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce and Manhattan School of Music. The Concert took place in the school's Borden Auditorium, 120 Claremont Avenue at West 122nd Street near Broadway. A special full tuition scholarship for Manhattan School of Music's jazz program in the name of the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce and its Chair, Lloyd Williams was announced prior to the concert. 135th Anniversary of Kilkare, August 18, 2012 : Kilkare, the ocean-front home of Eleanora and Michael Kennedy, came to life in grand scale last Saturday evening, the 18th of August, as friends came together to celebrate the 135th anniversary of this iconic Hampton residence located in the Georgica Association of Wainscott, New York. The Kennedys have instilled a great deal of life in this family home and added to its history as they welcomed 130 guests. Among the close friends were philanthropists, artists, writers, industrialists, moguls from all arenas, board members of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the Central Park Conservancy, and Georgica Association neighbors. The clouds parted from rain that had pounded the eastern shore of Long Island earlier in the day and glorious sunlight showed through to a spectacular sunset as guests enjoyed the delicious hors d'oeuvres by well-known caterer Olivier Cheng along with his berry sparkle specialty drink and cocktails galore. But it was not just the delicious food and drink nor the anniversary of Kilkare that made the party extra special. The Malloys, visiting from Palm Beach and Connecticut, added to the festivities. As Eleanora said, Kilkare means "Kill All Your Cares!" Built from 1877-1879 by Camilla Edwards and her husband, Walter Edwards Sr., a direct descendant of Jonathan Edwards, an influential philosopher and Yale theologian, it was lovingly restored by the Kennedys in 1976 and has been the home of the Kennedys and their growing family with children and grandchildren and all of their many celebrations for the past 36 years. Networking Party - Discussion on the Future of the Tech Entrepreneur in America, August 15, 2012 : The new Madison Jackson Building (371 Madison Street in Manhattan) hosted a networking party and panel discussion on the future of the tech entrepreneur in America on Wednesday, August 15. Panelists included Lawrence Leibowitz, COO of the New York Stock Exchange and Seth Merrin, CEO and Director of Liquidnet Holdings. Cocktails, networking and dinner began at 7 p.m., followed by a panel discussion at 7:45 and a live performance by the Klezmer Trio at 8:30. As COO, Leibowitz oversees daily operations, global cash execution and global listings for the New York Stock Exchange. He was formerly COO at UBS and executive vice president at Schwab Capital Markets. Merrin, who is an entrepreneur, global business leader and philanthropist, has reinvented how Wall Street can use technology to make the markets safer and more efficient for investors. Advanced Trading Magazine recognized him in 2011 as the Innovator of the Decade for the second time. IN MEMORIAM: Marvin Hamlisch June 2, 1944 – August 6, 2012 : Oscar, Grammy, Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and conductor Marvin Hamlisch has died, Billboard.biz reports. He was 68. His family reports he collapsed after a brief illness and died Monday. Hamlisch is best known for his Academy Award-winning composition “The Way We Were,” from the movie of the same name, but he wrote more than 40 movie scores, including “The Sting,” “Sophie’s Choice,” “Three Men & a Baby,” ” Take the Money and Run” and “Ordinary People.” For the stage, Hamlisch composed the music for “A Chorus Line,” which won him the Pulitzer Prize, as well as “They’re Playing Our Song,” ”The Goodbye Girl” and others. Hamlisch, the principal pops conductor for symphony orchestras in Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Dallas, Pasadena, Seattle and San Diego, was due next week to be named to the same position in the Philadelphia Orchestra. He was also slated to conduct the New York Philharmonic’s New Year’s Eve concert and was working on a new musical called Gotta Dance. In his career, Hamlisch won three Oscars, four Emmys, a Tony and three Golden Globes in addition to the Pulitzer Prize.

Grand Opening of the Kristy and James H. Clark Arts Center, June 23, 2012 : On Saturday, June 23, 2012, The Perlman Music Program celebrated the grand opening of the Kristy and James H. Clark Arts Center on its Shelter Island campus. Guests arrived to a fireside barbecue dinner and enjoyed perfect weather, delicious food, and spectacular views from the Program’s idyllic beachfront campus. After the meal, founders Toby and Itzhak Perlman, leadership donors Kristy and James H. Clark, Board President Morgan Stark and his wife Sidney, and Treasurer Randall Blank and his wife Christine gathered together under the eaves of the dazzling new Clark Arts Center behind a giant red ribbon. Toby Perlman warmly thanked Kristy and Jim Clark and all the guests for their support, and spoke about how much the new Clark Arts Center means to all of the students, faculty, and staff of the Program. Kristy and Jim Clark did the honors and cut the ribbon to enthusiastic cheers. Toby Perlman then welcomed everyone in for the first official tour of the state-of-the-art building. Highlights of the tour included the acoustically perfect 100-seat recital hall, ten individual practice rooms, a spacious teaching studio, a walk-in cedar closet full of concert gowns, and a peek into the generously sized girls’ dormitory on the second floor. To conclude the evening, everyone gathered in the recital hall for inspired orchestral, choral, and solo performances by the Summer Music School students. This memorable night ushered in a new era for The Perlman Music Program. The Kristy and James H. Clark Arts Center has already become the epicenter of campus, hosting performances, practice and coaching sessions, and choral and orchestral rehearsals almost every day. In addition, the Clark Arts Center will soon be the new home of the Alumni Concerts Festival, in which distinguished PMP alumni return to present world-class performances to local audiences. The inaugural recital will take place on Friday, August 10 at 7:30 PM, featuring violist Juan Miguel Hernandez. However, the Campaign for the Clark Arts Center isn’t over yet – now in its third year, there is just $700,000 to go before the $3.5 million fundraising goal has been met. The Polyphony Youth Orchestra, First Presbyterian Church of Greenwich,, June 21, 2012 : On June 21, more than 300 people gathered at First Presbyterian Church in Greenwich, CT bringing together the community in an event that displayed cultural diversity exemplified by the classical music the young musicians performed. Polyphony Youth Orchestra, comprised of Israel's most talented young Arab and Jewish musicians, shared both their extraordinary talents and vision for a more peaceful future in their home country during a performance in front of a packed audience. Greenwich is the first stop on a summer tour that includes concerts in Brooklyn, NY; Detroit, MI; West Hampton, NY; and Aspen, CO. Polyphony's programs, which include music appreciation classes, instrument instruction and scholar-in-residence seminars, among others, bring together more than 2,000 Arab and Jewish youths, beginning in elementary school and leading up to integrated orchestras that allow teenage musicians to learn and perform together. The orchestra is supported by a 501(c)3 non-profit organization Polyphony Foundation, which was founded by New York investor Craig Cogut and renowned violinist Nabeel Abboud-Ashkar. “I Have A Dream” Foundation, June 5, 2012 : Suzanne and Bob Wright, Co-Founders of Autism Speaks, were the guests of honor at the 2012 “I Have A Dream” Foundation (IHDF) Spring Gala which took place Tuesday, June 5th at 583 Park Avenue in Manhattan. The Wrights were selected as this year’s recipients of the Eugene M. Lang Lifetime Achievement Award because of their extraordinarily successful educational programs designed to maximize the potential of each and every child. Sue Herera, Co-Anchor of Power Lunch, CNBC and Carlos Watson, Managing Director and former CNN and MSNBC Anchor hosted the celebration. Child Abuse Luncheon, April 12, 2012 : NYSPCC’s inaugural Spring Luncheon on April 12th at the Pierre Hotel benefited the NYSPCC’s Trauma Recovery Program. The Luncheon honored the author Sapphire for her work to create awareness about the issue of child abuse, its impact on the lives of those who have experienced it, and how we can all make a difference. Founded in 1875, The New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NYSPCC) is the first child protective agency in the world. Throughout its 135 year history, The NYSPCC has sought, through the development of new and innovative programs, to meet the urgent needs of New York City's most vulnerable children. It is with this same spirit of innovation, concern and compassion that The NYSPCC responds to the complex needs of abused and neglected children, and those involved in their care, by providing best practice counseling, legal and educational services. New Yorkers for Children, April 10, 2012 : The New Yorkers for Children held their annual Spring Dance at the Mandarin Oriental. This is a great charity and also one of the great events of the season — especially for the younger crowd (20- through 40-somethings) in today’s social New York. It’s also a major fashion evening, as the young women dress to kill — and they knock ‘em dead. It’s also a dance, as well as a fund-raiser with an awards ceremony. Everyone has a good time and they dance the night away. New Yorkers For Children (NYFC) was founded in 1996 by former Commissioner of the Administration for Children’s Services Nicholas Scoppetta, as the non-profit partner to Children’s Services. I think I went to their first benefit — a dinner at the Chelsea Piers. I was invited to that dinner by Beth DeWoody to “see this new organization.” Oscar de la Renta was also one of the founders. Beth is now Secretary on the board. Susan Burden, who is also actively involved in the Carter Burden Center for the Aging, is Vice President, and its president is Commissioner Scoppetta. NYFC focuses on assisting on young people leaving foster care and attending college. The funds raised goes to college scholarships tutoring programs, job training, network opportunities as well as purchasing computers and other supplies for those attending college. The idea is simple: make a difference in a life — give these kids a boost going out into the world on their own. Mr. Scoppetta knows about this life: he was one of those kids. In the years since, the organization has grown in membership and achievement because of efforts of people volunteering. The evening hosted an extraordinary art exhibition and reception in support of Strokes of Genius mission to empower individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and to "Train The Talent℠. Strokes of Genius will soon be providing educational art studio experiences and workshops to “Train the Talent” ℠ of young students with ASD within an art studio experience to guide and support students through the creative process encouraging motivation, choice, and problem solving. Dr. Rosa C. Martinez (President) and Stuart Flaum (Vice President) of SOG awarded artists Trent Altman and Seth Chwast trophies for their achievements and winning designs for the United Nations World Autism Awareness Stamp for 2012. A highpoint to the evening were the speeches made by 16 year old Amanda LaMunyon and 14 year old Paloma Kalisch who paid tribute to their parents for supporting their artistic endeavors. Ovarian Cancer Research Fund at City Bakery, March 15, 2012 : Ovarian Cancer Research Fund’s Junior Board sponsored a dinner, drinks and hot chocolate tasting event to benefit the Fund. The evening event, from 8 -11pm, at City Bakery was one of New York City’s best young professionals’ happenings this season. The evening featured a silent auction and a host of eclectic treats, including sliders, mac & cheese, fried chicken and thick, rich, hot chocolate and assorted cookies and pastries. This was the third annual OCRF City Bakery event which is part of the Junior Board’s annual campaign to increase public awareness for the symptoms and detection challenges of a disease that affects approximately 21,000 American women annually, of which fewer than 40 percent survive. The five-year survival rate for ovarian cancer has increased by only 8% in the last 30 years. We are at a critical crossroads for supporting research into unlocking the mysteries of ovarian cancer. Since 1998, Ovarian Cancer Research Fund has invested nearly $45 million in ovarian cancer research through grants to scientists at more than 62 leading medical centers in the US. This research has led to some of the best and most promising breakthroughs ... but more needs to be done. The mission of OCRF is to fund research to find a method of early detection and ultimately a cure for ovarian cancer. OCRF helps patients and their loved ones understand the disease and its treatment, and also provides outreach programs to raise public awareness. The OCRF Junior Board’s efforts are specifically focused on expanding awareness of OCRF and its mission to younger members of the community.

New York School of Interior Design Kickoff Party, March 1, 2012 : Last night Jill Dienst, a Trustee of the New York School of Interior Design, hosted a kick off-reception for the New York School of Interior Design’s Annual Spring Benefit, at her new gallery Dienst+Dotter on Lafayette Street. This year’s benefit, on April 18 at the Metropolitan Club, will honor Jack Lenor Larsen with a Lifetime Achievement Award and Thomas Woltz with the first Thomas N. Armstrong III Award in Landscape Design.

IN MEMORIAM: Lucien Capehart (June 20, 1946 - February 27, 2012 : Palm Beachers lost a friend who helped chronicle their families’ milestones when photographer Lucien Capehart died of lung cancer on Monday, February 27, 2012. Only 65, Mr. Capehart became a familiar part of the island’s social scene after he moved to the island in 1973 and became a photographer. For more than three decades, Lucien recorded the happy occasions — bar mitzvahs, engagements, weddings, debuts and more — of Palm Beachers, as well as thousands of charity events and celebrity visits, including many at private homes and private clubs. While few may have known him truly intimately, many islanders now have cherished mementos of important times that he captured on film, and feel a connection to this warm, talented professional. On January 15th I photographed side by side with Lucien at the Susan G. omen event hosted at Mar a Lago; he worked the entire night photographing the guests and I said I was looking forward to seeing him again March 10th when we were scheduled to photograph for Itzhak Perlman Foundation. Unknown to most, he had been suffering from a lung disease for several months. And just three weeks ago, he worked the American Cancer Society ball in Mar-a-Lago as if nothing was happening. He is survived by his daughter, Lily; wife, Dina; brother Ron, of Orlando, and his spouse, Joel; and a stepsister, Judy Whitworth, of Texas. At his request, no services will be held. Memorial donations may be made to the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League.

Play to Win! KiDS Family Bowling Party, Jan 29, 2012 : On Sunday, January 29, 2012, KiDS of NYU Langone Foundation hosted its 6th annual KiDS Play to Win! Family Bowling Party at Chelsea Piers. With over 350 guests in attendance, the event raised $90,000 to enhance children’s medical care at NYU Langone Medical Center. Friends and families of all ages enjoyed bowling, face-painting, caricaturists, balloon sculptures, and more. Komen Pink Party, Jan 14, 2012 : The Perfect Pink Party gala at Mar-A-Lago on January 14, 2012 Photographed by Annie Watt for Palm Beach Look Palm Beach was awash in pink on Saturday evening, January 14th to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Ambassador Nancy Brinker, founder and CEO of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, chaired the Perfect Pink Party, along with Sen. Bill Nelson and Gov. Rick Scott, as honorary chairmen. The Royal Park Bridge was turned a shimmering pink Friday evening to kick off upcoming events for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure: the Perfect Pink Party and the Race for the Cure. It’s the first time the bridge has been lighted in this way. The bridge-lighting ceremony was followed Saturday night by the Second Annual Susan G. Komen Perfect Pink Party at The Mar-a-Lago Club. Last year’s inaugural event raised more than $850,000. The annual Race for the Cure will be Jan. 28 along Flagler Drive in West Palm Beach. Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker, Komen’s founder and CEO and a Palm Beach resident, joined Donald and Melania Trump and Florida Gov. Rick Scott and First Lady Ann Scott for an evening of dining, dancing and an auction. Y100 radio Miami host and regular of E!’s “Chelsea Lately” Michael Yo served as the night’s emcee. Music was provided by the Peter Graves Orchestra. Brinker served as the gala chairwoman alongside founding chairwoman Patty Myura. U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson and Grace Nelson. Gov. and Mrs. Scott were the evening’s honorary chairs. Cynthia Friedman and Nicki and Ira Harris co-chaired the event and Trump served as the New York Ambassador. The evening’s event raised more than $1 million to support Komen’s work in national research, with a quarter of it staying in the South Florida area. Susan G.
